The country scale may be the most common scale used in pop music.  Of course it is used in country music, but it is also very popular in rock and other types of pop music.  It can even be combined with the blues scale for a Major Blues sound (there's more on that in the blues section).  The country scale is always played over a chord progression where a major chord is the tone center (the note or chord that your ear is always led back to).  Unlike blues leads, there can be no stray notes when you play a country lead - it will be pretty obvious if you play a wrong note.

You'll notice that the country scale fingerings are the same as the blues fingerings, except that the pinky plays the root note of these fingerings.  Put your pinky right on the tone center of the song (if it's a major chord).
